Pleasant Valley, NY — Carmelo Anthony is finally a New York Knickerbocker.
Tonight the Knicks pulled off a blockbuster deal involving four of their starters , draft picks, money and some role players. This deal marks the end of several months of speculation surrounding Melo’s move to New York City to play in the Worlds Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.
Now that the deal is complete what does it mean for the Knicks?
It means we now have two bona-fide stars that should bring us championship in the near future. This years chances of making a run are slim but is not out of the realm of possibility. Going forward all we need to do is make sure we get some quality role players around Melo and Amare Stoudemire and the Knicks should be well on their way.
At the end of the day, this deal involved the Knicks giving up a lot of their young talent–four of their starters who accounted for roughly 50 points a game, combined. But, the deal needed to be done at any cost. Going into All Star weekend they were only two games above .500, which is nothing spectacular but definitely a huge improvement from last year.
Melo is an All Star caliber player and one of the top five best players in the NBA. The Knicks are in an excellent position to build upon these two main stars. With the players they received in this trade I believe the Knicks can make a deep playoff run this year and for years to come with some slight adjustments.
The next game for the Knicks will be at home on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to tune in. Spike Lee will most likely be on the sideline cheering on the new look Knicks.
