Albany, NY-- The growing popularity of the DVD mailing company Netflix has bestowed upon me a classic show that is worth a mention.
For those of you who cherish “The Office” (the American version) and the wit of “The Big Bang Theory,” you will relish the British comedy called “The IT Crowd,” a show about three people stuck in the literal/metaphorical basement of a skyscraper office full of ’a lot of sexy people not doing much work and having affairs,’” said Robert Lloyd of the LA Times. I’ve already finished the first season and I’m on to the second. The show just gets better and better. As we all know, our friends across the pond have their own ways of censorship and comedic charisma that is the total opposite of our FCC guidelines.
With Netflix on the rise, other companies like Blockbuster and Redbox are slowly being pushed out of the competition. Blockbuster, in its final gasp for air, conformed to the new era of business–the postal service. Now, just like Netflix, you can get movies delivered to your home. Blockbuster also delivers video games. It’s gaming competition is Gamefly has had trouble getting up-to-date games available for shipment, unlike Blockbuster, said PC World’s Jaren Newman.
Having the opportunity to watch anything I want and a having it delivered to my door was well worth the $9.95 a month investment. Despite my small contribution, Netflix’s profit expectation was not reached, said the LA Times‘ Ben Fritz. Here are the numbers,
Netflix stock was down 9% in after-hours trading after it reported $520 million in revenue for the three months ending June 30. That was up 27% from the same period a year ago, but on the low-end of guidance the company had provided to analysts.
How can that be?
Well, if these subscribers are anything like me, I can bet you that they are taking advantage of the low rate (one DVD viewing package). The ability to stream movies and TV shows on the internet, Xbox, PS3 and the Wii console, will yield profits. In the end, I feel as if I’m running with the right crowd for my entertainment needs.
